Crystal Palace Make Progress to Appoint Perfect Pierre Sage Replacement

Oct 28, 2026, 4:15 PM GMT

After deciding late that he wanted a career in sports journalism, Daniel worked his way up the ladder in an unconventional manner.

Having opted against university, Daniel worked with Sky Sports as a freelance contributor and translator during transfer windows while also volunteering on several other blog pages and outlets to get a portfolio of content together.

Daniel then worked with Barnet FC as part of their social media team before starting his own website, which focused on football and MMA content.

That eventually led to work with 90min and Reach PLC with The Mirror, Daily Record, Daily Express, and Manchester Evening News.

Following that, Daniel spent two-and-a-half years with Breaking Media covering Everton, Rangers, Leeds, West Ham and other clubs before joining GiveMeSport as a Premier League editor.

As well as football, Daniel is a huge MMA fan and has appeared on YouTube and podcast content too.

Crystal Palace are considering replacing Pierre Sage as their manager after a poor start to the campaign.

The Eagles currently sit 17th in the Premier League table with just two wins from their opening eight games of the season, and reports have emerged that owner Steve Parish is ready to make a decision on the future of his coach as a result of the slow start.

GIVEMESPORT sources understand that there are a number of candidates being considered, including the likes of Robbie Keane, Carlos Corberan, Sean Dyche, Vitor Pereira, and Thomas Frank.

It was reported on Tuesday by The Guardian that Sage has been given a final chance to keep his job, with the team set to take on Fulham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, before a trip to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

But defeat in those games is likely to spell the end of his time at Selhurst Park, and a report by Football Insider states that the Eagles are already pushing ahead with their plans to replace him.

Talks with former Spurs and Brentford boss Thomas Frank are understood to be progressing, and the Dane is believed to be the first-choice option to come in at Selhurst Park as Sage's replacement should the decision be made to sack him. There is no agreement in place, but talks through a third party mean that a potential deal is increasingly possible.

Sage has a chance to get things back on track, but replacing Oliver Glasner was always going to be very difficult considering the success that the Austrian had while in the hot seat in South London.

But he hasn't done nearly enough to earn any credit in the bank, and a string of poor results and performances mean that it's no surprise his job is under threat. Palace need to ensure that all the progress made in recent years doesn't go down the drain in a matter of months, and bringing in some stabilty and experience is a great way to do that.

Frank Is The Ideal Option for Crystal Palace

Frank had a tough time of things while at Spurs, but his tenure at Brentford was far more of a sign of what type of manager he is, and that would make him a perfect fit for Palace.

The 53-year-old has experience at the highest level, and while he knows how to set a team up to be hard to beat and tactically strong, they were also fun to watch, scored goals, and beat the top teams.

That's very similar to what Glasner did, and his tactical flexibility means that he can use the current squad, which is one of the strongest Palace have ever had, in a number of ways to get results. Considering the timing of the season, and the fact he's available as a free agent, it's hard to see how anyone else would be a better candidate for the role.

Parish is being smart by doing work behind the scenes in case Sage can't turn things around, and Frank is the perfect replacement to bring in.
