ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — The U.S. women are going to be busy the rest of this week.
In addition to competing in the team final Wednesday, Oct. 21, Claire Pease, Skye Blakely and Reese Esponda all qualified for individual event finals.
The top 24 gymnasts, with a limit of two per country, make the all-around final. The top eight on each event, again with a limit of two per country, make the apparatus final.
Blakely will be in four finals. Despite the Americans being in the very first qualifying session, and judging getting more generous in the latter rounds, Blakely finished with the second-highest all-around score. She also made the finals on vault (fifth), uneven bars (eighth) and balance beam (sixth).
Pease also will be in the all-around final, finishing seventh overall in qualifying. She'll also be in the vault (third) and floor (fifth) finals.
Esponda held her spot atop the floor standings, with no one else getting within 0.20 points of her. Impressive, considering Esponda had to change her routine after learning right before worlds began that she wasn't going to get credit for one of her skills.
"I was a little bit upset about it just because that was a big connection pass for me," Esponda said. "I move forward. It is what it is."
The women's all-around final is Friday, Oct. 23. The vault and uneven bars finals are Saturday, Oct. 24, and the balance beam and floor exercise finals are Sunday, Oct. 25.
Peacock is live streaming the team, all-around and event finals.
