Novak Djokovic has one goal on his mind as the 2026 season comes to a close: qualifying for the ATP Finals.

The Serb is currently 10th in the race to Turin, where the prestigious year-end tournament is held, and needs to be in the top eight to make the cut. Since his first ATP Finals appearance in 2007, Djokovic has only failed to qualify for the competition once, which happened in 2017 due to a long-term elbow injury he sustained.

Djokovic is in Basel at the moment for the Swiss Indoors, an ATP 500 event, and will then head to Paris for the final ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.

Novak Djokovic dealt blow in the Paris Masters entry list

The entry list for the Paris Masters was revealed recently and defending champion Jannik Sinner will not be in action after ending his season early due to a knee injury. Instead, soon-to-be-crowned year-end world number one Alexander Zverev will be seeded first.

Carlos Alcaraz is seeded second, followed by Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli, Arthur Fils, Frances Tiafoe and Alex de Minaur. Only the top eight seeds at the Paris Masters receive a bye, meaning 10th seed Djokovic will have to compete for a spot in the second round.

Djokovic’s last chance to pick up a large number of points in the race to Turin comes at the Paris Masters, where he has dominated in the past. The 39-year-old is a seven-time champion, with his most recent triumph coming in the 2023 season.

The title-winning run in 2023 was Djokovic’s last campaign at the Paris Masters, with the legend having limited his schedule as he approaches the end of his career. Djokovic won three titles in a row at the Paris Masters from 2012 to 2015.

As it stands, only Zverev, Alcaraz and Shelton are officially qualified for the ATP Finals, though Cobolli and Medvedev are close to confirming their places. Rafael Jodar’s early exit from the Basel Open was a boost for Djokovic, as the Spaniard currently occupies the eighth and final spot in the race.
