Brighton & Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler is looking to avenge his side’s cup defeat in midweek by making history.
Albion are yet to win at Manchester City in the club’s history (D4 L11) and after penalty shoot-out disappointment on Wednesday night, the Seagulls boss wants his players to get the rewards they deserve.
And he has full belief in his side to get ‘revenge’ for that loss which denied Albion a quarter-final spot for the first time as attention turns back to the Premier League.
Hurzeler said: “You have to be fearless, and that's our approach. Of course, you need to just adapt to certain things.
“You need to have huge respect for the players from City - for their start (to the season), what they are doing, for their style of play. That's great and it is always nice to watch them but, on the other side, you need to be fearless.
“You need to have belief in our own approach. You need to have belief in our style of play, in our principles, and in the quality of our players.”
“I'm sitting here with the biggest belief in my players, the biggest belief in everyone who is involved in a game day and enjoying the training this week because I see them working. I see how they work together, I see how much effort they put into all these trainings and preparation, regeneration.
“I have a big belief that we can get something out on Saturday. That's the positive thing. Having that many games, you can't be frustrated that long.
“Of course, we were all disappointed. We have a disappointing feeling after this game but we can take revenge and success is the only revenge you can take and therefore we try to go on Saturday to be successful.”
Having stayed in Manchester since the Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday ahead of returning to Etihad Stadium today (Saturday), Hurzeler confessed there will be no change to the high-intensity style.
The Albion boss told The Argus: “No matter to which stadium we go, I have to believe in my players, in our approach, in our principles that, with this approach, we can be successful.
“We proved it now regarding the performances. At Liverpool, we proved it. Again on Wednesday, and now it's about getting the results from these performances.
“I'm desperate that my players get the rewards for all the effort that they put in because, in the end, we also know results create a mood. Results create confidence, results create this belief.
“So it's not only about performance, but the only thing we can control is performances. But, in the end, we need the results. We want to get the achievements at the end of the season and that's what we're trying to go for on Saturday.”
Malick Yalcouye’s opening goal in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie came by winning the ball high up the pitch against a City side who looked to play out from the back, and Albion will be pressing the hosts’ back-line once again.
Hurzeler added: “That’s always our approach. We press high and also, on Saturday. I won't be giving too much away if I say we go again and try to be intense. That's our approach, that's our style of play.”
The Brighton boss also provided a positive update on the injured Stefanos Tzimas, who is nearing a return to action after ten months out with an ACL injury. Having suffered the injury against Aston Villa in December, Hurzeler is hoping he can train fully next week.
