The Arizona Cardinals are riding high after their upset in Week 6 on Sunday over the Los Angeles Rams. They beat the Super Bowl favorites 18-16, putting up their best defensive performance of the season and doing just enough offensively.
Thatr gave them a huge boost in the latest NFL power rankings from NFL.com's Nick Shook.
The Cardinals actually had the largest leap in the league, moving up nine spots. Last week, they ranked 31st. Today they are 22nd.
Perhaps the Cardinals should just become the third tenant at SoFi Stadium. It’s where they play their best football. For a second time this season, Arizona rolled into Inglewood and punched the home team in the mouth, defeating the Rams despite not scoring a touchdown, playing without its starting running back and leaning on a receiving corps that no longer includes Marvin Harrison Jr. Arizona will remain a frustrating team for me to analyze on a weekly basis because of how games like these reveal its potential when I know it won’t perform at this level every week. When the Cardinals do, though, it’s a fun watch.
They have two wins at SoFi Stadium. The LA Chargers and the Rams have one combined.
The problem with that game is that they won without scoring a touchdown, and they had a defensive performance like they haven't had since the start of last season. It feels good right now, but without a repeat performance, it feels like a one-off. They allowed over 30 points in the previous four games and in 10 of their previous 14.
For now, though, things feel a little better.
The unbeaten San Francisco 49ers still are No. 1.
The previously No. 3 Seattle Seahawks dropped to No. 10 after their Thursday night loss to the Denver Broncos, whom the Cardinals play this week.
The Rams took a terrible tumble, from No. 12 to No. 24. They are the lowest-ranked team in the division, which makes sense this week because they have the same record as the Cardinals but are in last place in the NFC West.
