Isle of Wight rower scoops medals at world championships

Bass Andre, of Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club, finished the season on a high at the World Offshore championships in China, securing two silver medals in the solo and mixed quad events.

The result follows a summer of strong performances, including victory in the Danesfield Trophy at the Henley Royal Regatta in July and a near-podium finish at the European Championships.

Garry Walters, club captain, said: "Bass continues to strive high and surpass expectations, proving to be a high-calibre athlete in a range of rowing disciplines, from classic fine boats to beach sprints and offshore.

"They are a remarkable athlete who remains refreshingly modest and humble.

"We are so honoured that Bass wears the Shanklin kit with such pride."

Andre reached the finals in all three events entered in China — solo, mixed doubles, and mixed quad — earning silver in both the solo and quad in challenging conditions.

Although missing out on a medal in the doubles, reaching the finals was considered a strong achievement.

Andre will soon race in Monaco and Hong Kong, ahead of beginning a short term coaching and rowing post in Australia.
