Spanish footballer's 'neurological' condition worsens after being rushed to intensive care
CD Tenerife issued an update on Jesus de Miguel after he collapsed on the pitch and was taken into intensive care

Tenerife have revealed in a new statement that the condition of Jesus de Miguel has worsened. Their striker suffered a serious injury during a Spanish second division fixture after clashing with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.

Reports in Spain claimed he had suffered a cardiac arrest but was resuscitated before being rushed to hospital and placed on an intensive care unit. On Monday, Tenerife confirmed he was stable but less than 24 hours later, provided a fresh and worrying update after his situation changed.

Their latest official statement read: "Jesús de Miguel's medical condition has worsened neurologically. More information in the coming hours."

The harrowing incident occurred in the closing stages of the game when De Miguel ran onto a long ball up the pitch when he was taken out by the flying knee of Owono, who was sent off for the challenge.

The 30-year-old lay motionless on the pitch for a few seconds before the players soon realised the severity of the situation and demanded medical treatment.
