Celtic Board Faces Three AGM Demands After Major Breakthrough

The Celtic Trust has confirmed that three shareholder resolutions will be included in Celtic’s upcoming AGM notice after the club accepted that the necessary paperwork meets the required criteria.

It means the Trust has successfully cleared an important procedural hurdle in its efforts to bring three proposals before shareholders at this year’s annual general meeting.

There is plenty more in our latest Celtic news and transfers coverage.

The resolutions concern Celtic’s long-term planning, the club’s security operations and the handling of last year’s controversial AGM.

In an update on social media, the Trust said:

“UPDATE We submitted all signed forms last week.

“We received confirmation from Celtic today that the signed forms have been reviewed, meet the criteria and will be issued within the AGM notice.”

The Trust also thanked the shareholders who signed its resolution requisition forms.

The first proposal calls for Celtic to prepare and publish a three-to-five-year plan outlining how the club intends to improve its performance both on and off the pitch.

The Trust wants greater clarity over the club’s football and financial objectives, alongside a framework that would allow shareholders to assess progress over time.

Its second resolution concerns Celtic’s security department.

The organisation is seeking a review of existing arrangements, carried out with the involvement of elected supporter representatives, to examine how the club approaches safety and the treatment of fans.

The third proposal addresses events at Celtic’s 2025 AGM, when Ross Desmond, the son of major shareholder Dermot Desmond, addressed those in attendance.

The Trust has criticised the decision to give him a platform at the meeting and is calling for an apology from the Celtic board.

It also wants a commitment that a similar situation will not be allowed to happen again.

The Trust had been seeking signatures from 100 ordinary shareholders to secure the inclusion of its proposals in the AGM agenda.

Monday’s announcement confirms that Celtic has reviewed the submitted forms and accepted that they meet the criteria for inclusion in the formal meeting notice.

However, that does not mean the club’s board has agreed to any of the three proposals.

Shareholders will still have to consider the resolutions through the AGM process, with the outcome determined by the relevant voting arrangements.

The club is expected to issue its AGM notice to shareholders, setting out the business to be considered and the resolutions put forward.

That document will now include the Trust’s proposals, giving shareholders an opportunity to examine the demands before the meeting.

The development follows several weeks of efforts by the Trust to gather the necessary backing after its members approved the three proposed resolutions at their own AGM in September.
