Manchester United’s injury problems continue to disrupt Michael Carrick’s plans ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League encounter with Leeds United.
The Reds have endured a miserable start to the campaign, winning just twice in nine matches across all competitions.
Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid extended their winless run to five games, increasing pressure on Carrick.
Injuries have only complicated matters, with several players facing uncertainty ahead of the trip to Elland Road.
Benjamin Sesko is struggling with a recurrence of the shin injury he suffered towards the end of last season, having previously returned to action.
Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, while Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw have also experienced fitness concerns.
There have been some positives, however, with Carrick confirming that Noussair Mazraoui could return against Leeds after recovering from his recent injury.
Amad Diallo has also returned to action after missing the opening fixtures, starting against Tottenham before appearing from the bench against Atletico Madrid.
However, another United winger is now having his workload carefully managed following an injury setback.
Manchester United academy winger Noah Ajayi has experienced further fitness difficulties after suffering an injury during the summer.
Responding to a supporter questioning the 17-year-old’s absence from recent academy line-ups, journalist Nathan Salt explained on X:
“Had an injury issue during the summer so just a case of managing. Will be playing 21s for the most part this season.”
Ajayi returned from injury against Sabah FK in September, making his first appearance of the campaign in the UEFA Youth League.
He subsequently scored against Newcastle United’s Under-18s and has registered three competitive appearances this season, totalling 107 minutes.
The German youth international scored ten goals in 26 Under-18 appearances last season.
His absence from Friday’s Under-21 squad against Nottingham Forest suggests United are continuing to manage his fitness carefully.
