Hibs players need to focus on St Miren game says Miquel Chaiwa

MIGUEL Chaiwa says the Hibs players need to focus on the St Mirren game on Wednesday night after today’s narrow defeat to Celtic at Easter Road.

Owen Elding fired Hibs in front following a quick free-kick by Joe Newell inside three minutes, but the lead was short-lived as Jason Kerr headed in an own goal from a Celtic corner two minutes later.

Hibs then enjoyed their best spell of the game, only for the visitors to take the lead on 43 minutes through Camilo Durán, who curled into the far corner.

Hibs pushed Martin O’Neill’s side all the way in the second half, but couldn’t make their chances count and fell to a narrow defeat.

Hibs now travel to Paisley languishing at the foot of the table and the players are determined to bring back the three points.

After the final whistle Chaiwa said: “I’d say it’s a very disappointing result.

“We tried our very best to try and get the maximum points, but unfortunately this is how football always is.

“We just need to go back to the drawing board and reflect on our mistakes.

“We started well, and after scoring as early as possible, they equalised [soon after], and it was up to us again to push more and look for a goal.

“Looking at their second goal, it’s up to us to take the decisions and whether to press or not, but looking at it, it was pretty much a disappointing game because of the way we started.

“We started really well, and conceding the second goal going into half-time was really, really hard for us, so we tried by all means to come out strong in the second half.

“We need to be more calm in the box, and for them (Celtic), they only had two [proper] chances, and they scored.

“For us, we created so many chances, but at the end of the day we didn’t even manage to score the second goal, so it’s up to us again, going back to the drawing board and trying to rectify our mistakes and working as hard as possible to score more goals.

“We need to stick together, as there were many positive things we got from today’s game, and looking at it, it’s done and dusted, so we have to shift our minds towards next week against St Mirren.

“We have to be really, really focused, and we just need to go there and really fight and get the maximum points that we need.”
