Steven Gerrard would reportedly be interested in the Wrexham manager's job should the vacancy arise as pressure mounts on Phil Parkinson. After missing out on the Championship play-offs last season, the Red Dragons are expected to challenge at the sharp end again this term.
However, it's been a tough start for Parkinson's side, who sit 17th in the table with just two wins from 10 games. Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac would be reluctant to make a change after what Parkinson has achieved since being appointed in 2021, when the club was still in non-league.
However, they may not have a choice if there is no turnaround in results. According to talkSPORT, Gerrard would be open to the job. The Liverpool icon hasn't managed since leaving Saudi side Al-Ettifaq almost two years ago.
At the start of his coaching career, Gerrard worked with Liverpool's under-18s and clearly still has close ties to the Reds. Therefore, if he were to take a job like Wrexham, it would be a surprise if he didn't use those links to strengthen the squad. Here are five players he could sign either in January or next summer and which coaches he could turn to...
The winger, 19, is highly rated at Anfield and impressed under former Wales boss Rob Page's under-21 side last season.
Morrison is currently playing in League One with Sheffield Wednesday, so Gerrard would have to bide his time. If Wrexham are still a Championship club next season, a move to north Wales under Gerrard could be a logical step.

Given left-back is Liverpool's problem position, Chambers, 22, might be getting some Premier League action soon, having come off the bench late on in the Reds' Champions League win over LASK in midweek.
Chambers has already played in the Championship, having spent the second half of last season at Charlton, operating predominantly as a wing-back. Boasting excellent delivery, he would be an astute signing.

Wrexham-born, Championship experience, the great-nephew of Wales and Liverpool legend Ian Rush: This signing would make sense for numerous seasons.
The Red Dragons may have to wait as the left-back has been working his way back to fitness after undergoing hamstring surgery earlier this year, which led to an early termination of his loan spell at Derby last season. He's also had stints at Blackburn and Dundee. At 24, it's time for Beck to move on, and where better than Wrexham?

Elliott, 23, is a former wonderkind whose career has gone south over the last couple of years. Last season's loan to Aston Villa was a complete waste of time after Unai Emery decided early on not to take up the option to sign him permanently, meaning he barely featured.

The midfielder's current loan at Valencia didn't start well amid concerns over his fitness and could conceivably be cut short. It may be time for Jones to take a step back to go forward, and Wrexham could be a perfect move. Given he idolised Gerrard in his youth, Jones would presumably jump at the chance to play under him.
While the 20-year-old hasn't made his senior Liverpool debut yet, he has been in and around the first-team squad, including during pre-season. A loan to the EFL is a logical step and who better for a promising young midfielder to work under than Gerrard?

Gerrard has had Michael Beale and former Liverpool player Gary McAllister in his coaching team at Rangers and Aston Villa, so it would be no surprise to see them link up again at some point.
Beale, who has had unsuccessful managerial stints at Sunderland and QPR, is currently in charge of SV Zulte, currently eighth in the Belgian top flight. McAllister's last coaching job was with Gerrard at Villa.
