After Monday night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles’ season is in serious jeopardy. They suffered their fifth straight loss, falling 38-21 in Week 7. Although the Eagles put up a fight offensively early on, their defense collapsed in the fourth quarter and allowed the Cowboys to pull away. One of the biggest concerns was the growing list of injuries sidelining key players.

With Jalen Hurts already out because of blood clots in his lungs, the Eagles’ quarterback situation was already a concern. The Cowboys game only added to their problems, as the team lost more key players on offense. It seems fans have already given up on the Eagles’ chances for the remainder of the season.

The defeat dropped the Eagles to third in the NFC East standings, with a 2-5 record. Despite getting several defensive players back, the Eagles struggled to contain the Cowboys, who rushed for 204 yards.

Cowboys running back Javonte Williams recorded a career-high 155 rushing yards, while quarterback Dak Prescott led the offense efficiently, throwing three touchdown passes without facing much pressure.

Former NFL wide receiver James Jones believes the Eagles should already start looking ahead to next season. “You walk into your locker. When you know the season’s over, you walk into your locker, and it’s a big garbage bag to put all your stuff,” Jones said on Monday’s episode of the Speakeasy podcast.

“To put all your stuff in for next season, and clean your locker out because this year’s over. The Philadelphia Eagles this season are over. To be honest with you, Saquon’s probably gonna be shut down for the year. He was hobbled out there today. I don’t see him trying to fight through no pain to go out there and play next week,” he added.

Analyst Skip Bayless had just two words to describe the Eagles’ loss. “Eagles DONE,” he wrote on X.

Former NFL star Jason McCourty was equally straightforward with his advice.

“I think for the Philadelphia Eagles, you have to find your reasons to smile along this journey. It’s not going to be easy when you have Devonte Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, all of these guys not in the lineup,” he said on SportsCenter after the game.

McCourty reflected on the lowest point of his own career in 2020, when he played for the New England Patriots and the team struggled without Tom Brady in the center.

“If the Commanders beat the Eagles Sunday night football, it’s time to get ready for 2027. In my opinion, because the thing about the Eagles, unfortunately, they’re undermanned. Like even if you make a quarterback change to Joe Milton, you’re always going to be at a disadvantage at that position,” former Super Bowl champion Bryant McFadden said on Monday’s episode of NFL on CBS.

According to Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks, “Fighting is their only choice if they want to compete in 2027.” He noted that a poor finish to the season could have serious consequences for the coaching staff and players, with some potentially losing their jobs in the offseason if they fail to perform.

The Eagles are currently ranked No. 29 in PFN’s NFL Impact Rankings, with a grade of 66.2.

DeVonta Smith has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while fellow receiver Dontayvion Wicks missed the game with an ankle injury. Saquon Barkley also aggravated his hamstring injury, leaving the Eagles’ offensive unit in a precarious position.

Head coach Nick Sirianni will need to find answers before the Eagles’ Week 8 matchup. They will face the Washington Commanders on Sunday, November 1, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
