Oregon's Iapani Laloulu earns midseason All-American honor

We've reached the halfway point of the college football season, and not everything has gone the way the Oregon Ducks would have hoped. But some of the Ducks' veteran leaders have shown up every Saturday and performed to their best, and one landed a pristine midseason honor

Iapani Laloulu earned a first-team selection on The Athletic's midseason All-American team as a center. Laloulu is the only Duck to make the cut, anchoring an Oregon offensive line that has struggled to this point to both protect the quarterback (allowed nine sacks this season) and get any push in the run game.

Laloulu was selected as an FWAA first-team All-American last season and landed on the Outland Trophy watch list before this season, and he has continued to live up to the high expectations. On 212 pass-blocking snaps this season, Laloulu has yet to allow a single pressure. He has been an impact player since his freshman season and the starter at center since he was a sophomore, and all of that experience is paying off.

Around him, the offensive line has been shuffled weekly. Last week in a win against Nebraska, the Ducks moved Ziyare Addison inside from left tackle to guard, only to replace him later in the game with freshman Tommy Tofi. Kawika Rogers, Dave Iuli and Douglas Utu have also frequently rotated in at guard spots, while Fox Crader has started every game this season at either left or right tackle.

Laloulu has also dealt with the change in quarterbacks this season since Dante Moore went down with an injury. Oregon's offense with both Dylan Raiola and Brock Thomas has run more plays from under center than usual, and Laloulu has adapted.

Laloulu is the only Duck to make the list, but not the only player with Oregon ties to make the cut. Oregon State freshman wideout Jesse Legree has shocked the nation this season, leading the country in receiving yards (1,040) and touchdown catches (14). Legree earned a first-team selection from The Athletic, while former Oregon safety Kingston Lopa earned a first-team selection for his play at Cal. After taking on a minimal role in two seasons with the Ducks, Lopa is tied for the most interceptions in the country this season with five.
