Former Colts star Robert Mathis predicted a firing Sunday. Indianapolis dismissed general manager Chris Ballard the following morning.
Robert Mathis saw a change coming for the Indianapolis Colts.
Less than a day later, the franchise made one.
The former Colts pass rusher posted a clear-cut prediction on X on Sunday after Indianapolis suffered a 26-20 loss to the previously winless Tennessee Titans.
“Somebody definitely gettin fired,” Mathis wrote.
On Monday morning, the Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard, ending a tenure that began in 2017.
Mathis didn't identify anyone by name in his post, but his take quickly proved accurate.
Indianapolis still has 11 regular-season games remaining, but its next steps will now unfold without the executive who assembled the roster and oversaw its recent struggles.
Indianapolis fell to 2-4 after squandering a 13-0 halftime lead. A second-half fumble and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown helped Tennessee turn a promising Colts afternoon into another frustrating defeat.
As for Mathis, the disappointment comes with the perspective of someone who helped set a much higher standard in Indianapolis.
He spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the Colts, became the franchise’s all-time sack leader with 123, and helped Indianapolis win Super Bowl XLI.
And by Monday morning, his belief had turned into reality.
