That defeat is going to take some time to recover from isn't it? On Saturday night, Chelsea were widely expected to beat fierce rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge because, well, that is just what always happens. However, that is not how events transpired.
After a miserable display, two late goals saw Spurs secure a 2-0 victory. Mike Penders marked his full Premier League debut with a calmitous own goal, before Cole Palmer picked up a brainless and needless red card, with Mathys Tel then securing Tottenham's victory torwards the end.
As has been widely documented, this is only Spurs' second win in 42 visits to Stamford Bridge, dating back to 1990. However, that is not the most shocking statistic that came to light after full time.
As noted by Opta Joe, that was Chelsea's 14th defeat in all competitions since the start of March. Amazingly, this is more than any other club across Europe's big five leagues during this period.
Since the appointment of Xabi Alonso, that is the Blues' third loss, also defeated in London derbies by Arsenal and Brentford. Meantime, last season, Chelsea lost eight of their final 11 Premier League matches, first under Liam Rosenior and then Calum McFarlane, beaten by Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton, both Manchester clubs, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland en route to finishing tenth.
Rosenior's side were also smashed 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, while McFarlane was in charge for the FA Cup Final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley, taking their tally to 14 loses across their last 27 outings.
As mentioned, this is more defeats than anyone else across Europe's top five leagues, so who else is close to the Blues in this regard?

Worth noting that, the above table does not include clubs who were relegated at the end of last season. Even given that, it is not exactly a list of European heavyweights, is it? Every Chelsea fan, as well as supporters of pretty much every club, have enjoyed laughing at Tottenham recently.
Spurs only secured successive 17th place finishes on the final day of last season, starting this new campaign by failing to win any of their first six. However, across the last 238 days, Chelsea have now suffered four more defeats than their cross capital rivals.
Alonso thereby need to rebuild trust with his new supporters. Well, having lost to the worst Tottenham team we have ever seen, the worst Manchester United side any of us have ever witnessed are the next visitors to Stamford Bridge. Surely the Blues can't lose that one, right?
