The Milwaukee Brewers will have to wait at least one more game for their World Series triumph after the Tampa Bay Rays kept their season alive with a thrilling extra-innings win Tuesday. It was a finish rookie reliever Shane Drohan would like to forget.
Drohan, a lefty who's pitched only once during the postseason, entered in the 12th inning with the Brewers leading by one. It was a special chance for Drohan to shut the door on the Rays and give his team its first championship while the rest of the bullpen was spent.
It was not such a storybook ending. The 27-year-old Drohan gave up four hits and the game-winning run to Tampa Bay, which will host Milwaukee again Wednesday.
Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski was an option some fans were hoping Brewers manager Pat Murphy would turn to instead of Drohan with the game on the line. Murphy explained postgame why he didn't roll with his ace.
"You can't blow that type of situation on a one-run lead on the road," Murphy said. "If we were in the 13th inning and we had a three-run lead, maybe it wouldn't, but probably still wouldn't have. We did the things we needed to do. They put the ball in play where they needed to, did some clutch things when they needed 'em there."
Now, The Miz will start Game 5 with the Brewers on the brink of championship glory.
