Liverpool star Rio Ngumoha has continued to show his class with his immediate reaction to learning that he made history for the club in the Champions League win over Villarreal.
It came after the winger had been a standout performer for the Reds against the Spanish outfit, throughout a match that was filled with twists and turns for the home side. After a poor start, Liverpool found itself two-goals down early on, with Georges Mikautadze and Sergi Cardona giving the visitors a lead after some calamitous defending.
Ngumoha impressed, even during those first 35 minutes of struggles, before he played his part in a comeback. Alexis Mac Allister pulled one back from a corner, before the winger's cross found the head of Ronald Araujo to equalize right on the stroke of half-time.
The 18-year-old turned provider again as he set up Mac Allister for a second time, while Florian Wirtz sealed all three points in a 4-3 triumph on the night.
As Ngumoha stole the headlines for his display, he also continued to break records, becoming the youngest player in Liverpool's history to score or assist in a Champions League game - doing so at 18 years and 52 days old.
While it would've been easy to take the praise as his own doing, the academy graduate showed his true colors by reflecting the record back onto his team's result after being told about it on Amazon Prime Video.
He said on the record: "These records are amazing to break but winning is the most important," showing the type of mentality that Liverpool fans would love to hear from a player who is growing in stature with every single performance.
Ngumoha was equally full of praise for the fight back from his teammates, as he said: "It was a top performance from the boys. We were two goals down but the mentality was always there. We knew we were going to win.
"It's up there with one of the best I've played. I enjoyed myself and the team helped me a lot. Whenever I get the ball and there's an opportunity to go one v one or two v one, I believe in myself. I'll just keep going and be ruthless."
It was certainly the kind of performance that doesn't just show the promise and potential that he has, but the quality that the star possesses in the here and now.
It appears difficult for Andoni Iraola to consider dropping Ngumoha after such a display, with the challenge now being for the winger to follow up such a good performance with another one.
While it remains to be seen if he can add consistency alongside his quality, it's clear that Liverpool has a talent on its hands that could be generational, but above all else, willing to work hard for the team.
