GdS: A stadium with happy memories – Goncalo Ramos hoping for repeat Udine feat

Goncalo Ramos will lead AC Milan’s attack against Udinese tonight, at a stadium that he actually knows pretty well.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write how the patched-up side that Ruben Amorim will field in Udine will at least have its number nine. The rapid recovery of Ramos – who missed the match in Bournemouth due to a left calf issue – is one of the few positives.

It was at the Bluenergy Stadium that Ramos scored one of the most important goals of his career, playing a decisive role in securing the first European Super Cup in PSG’s history.

Recovery relief

A sigh of relief came on the very day of Milan’s Europa League clash against their English opponents as the scans revealed no injury. However, the calf is always a delicate area, so it was not a given that the Portuguese forward would be fit and ready to return immediately.

Instead, he was already training with the squad on Friday, making himself available to play tonight against Udinese. The signs are positive, and the former PSG man will take his place at the center of the attack for a match that could propel the Rossoneri into third place, level with Roma.

Before missing the away trip to Bournemouth, Ramos had scored in two consecutive matches against RB Salzburg and Atalanta. Now, he returns to Udine, aiming to make it three in a row. As previously mentioned, Gonçalo has already celebrated a significant goal in Udine.

It was August 13, 2025: PSG vs. Tottenham. In the 77th minute, with the Parisian side trailing by two goals, Luis Enrique brought the Portuguese centre-forward off the bench. Eight minutes later, Lee Kang-in narrowed the deficit. Then, in the 94th minute, Ramos struck, forcing the match to penalties.

Gonçalo converted the second spot-kick, and he and his team-mates went on to lift the Super Cup. Following that victory, the forward insisted he had no intention of leaving PSG that summer, and he kept his word.

The former Benfica man went on to secure more trophies, including a second consecutive Champions League title. A year later, the situation shifted, with Milan ready to offer him the number nine jersey and the starting role that had remained a distant dream in Paris.

In Milan, Ramos has had a start marked by both highs and lows. It is hardly surprising, given the pressure of a €70m transfer fee, a record for the Rossoneri. Was that too much? Who knows; in time, the pitch will provide the answer.

What is certain is that the current side cannot afford to be without its starting striker. Waiting in the wings is young Francesco Camarda – a player with a very promising future – but for Amorim, the focus must remain on the here and now, and on the absolute necessity of beating Udinese.
