JD Vance has praised Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase after the NFL wide receiver made a special gesture for his six-year-old son.
The Ohio-born U.S. Vice President and longtime Bengals fan visited Cincinnati's training facility on Wednesday, greeting head coach Zac Taylor and several players before leaving. His visit attracted attention for his interactions with the team and quarterback Joe Burrow's reaction.
However, one of the more positive moments of the visit involved the star wide receiver who spoke with Vance and made a comment about his six-year-old son Vivek's gloves. "Nice gloves, man," Chase told Vivek as he filed into the locker room.
The exchange clearly left an impression on the vice president, who recalled it after Cincinnati's win. "Huge win for Cincinnati," Vance wrote on X.
"Proud of the entire team, but a special shout-out to Ja'Marr Chase, an amazing talent, who made my little six-year-old's year by noticing his football gloves. It's early, but I think the Bengals are going to make a run. Who Dey!"
The Bengals produced a stunning comeback against the Ravens, overturning a 13-0 halftime deficit to secure a 35-13 victory after scoring 35 unanswered points in the second half.
Chase finished with five receptions on seven targets for 62 yards and a touchdown, helping Cincinnati secure a crucial AFC North win.
Although Chase has not been a high-volume receiver in the opening weeks of the season, his efficiency and ability to deliver when called upon have been encouraging signs for the Bengals' offense.
However, the wide receiver was visibly frustrated by Cincinnati's performance in the first half, before the team mounted its remarkable comeback.
"I came in here screaming, saying, 'Somebody's got to make a play for us, somebody got to make a play,'" Chase said. "And I told our offense [that] we can't look at our defense the whole time. We've got to step this s--- up and make something work."
Cincinnati entered Sunday’s game with a 4-2 record after losing three consecutive AFC North games and six of its previous eight regular-season meetings with Baltimore (4-3). Despite being without star quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Ravens controlled the first half.
Baltimore outgained the Bengals 258 yards to 59 and ran 20 more offensive plays before the break. Cincinnati’s total was the fewest first-half yards in any game of Burrow’s career since the Bengals selected him first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The one-sided opening left Chase visibly frustrated with his team’s performance. "I didn't like how we played," Chase said. "We had [19] plays, maybe two or three possessions. And it didn't go our way at all. We had opportunities to get the ball out of our hands, and Joe was getting too much pressure."
