Barcelona to be fined for El Clasico incident

Barcelona’s meeting with Real Madrid was supposed to be another opportunity to make a statement in one of football’s biggest rivalries.

Barcelona’s latest meeting with Real Madrid was supposed to be another opportunity to make a statement in one of football’s biggest rivalries.

The two Spanish giants arrived at the Clasico knowing that every result between them can have a significant impact on the title race.

Hansi Flick’s side had the home advantage at the Spotify Camp Nou, where the atmosphere was expected to play a major role.

However, the contest ultimately went Madrid’s way, with the visitors securing a 2-1 victory after a tense battle between the rivals.

Kylian Mbappe was central to the outcome, finding the net twice as Madrid took control of the encounter.

Yet the result was not the only talking point from a match that produced controversy beyond the football itself.

Barcelona have been handed a financial sanction after objects were thrown towards Real Madrid players during the Clasico, while a separate disciplinary investigation has been opened into an alleged incident involving Eduardo Camavinga.

Barcelona to be fined for El Clasico incident

The decision was confirmed by La Liga’s Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday, following reports of disorder during Madrid’s celebrations after Mbappe’s second goal, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

The incident occurred in the 87th minute, when a water bottle and a soft-drink can were thrown from the North Stand towards the visiting players.

Neither object struck a footballer, but referee Juan Martinez Munuera recorded the episode in his official match report.

Officials activated the first stage of the protocol for objects being thrown onto the pitch, with a warning delivered over the stadium’s public-address system.

Play was briefly held up while the announcement was made, in accordance with the established procedure.

The committee classified the incident as a minor disciplinary offence under Article 117 of its code.

The maximum fine for this category is €602, with €301 corresponding to the medium level of the penalty scale; the report does not specify the precise amount ultimately payable.

The financial sanction is not the only matter Barcelona must address.

La Liga has also reported an alleged incident in which Camavinga was struck on the head with a flagpole as Madrid’s players celebrated their second goal near the stands.

Footage of the confrontation circulated after the match, prompting further scrutiny of the behaviour in the crowd.

That matter is now subject to a separate disciplinary process, meaning further consequences could follow once the relevant authorities have examined the evidence.

No additional punishment relating to the Camavinga incident has been confirmed at this stage.
