Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich celebrated his 60th birthday on Saturday, 24 October, the same day the Blues suffered an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. The billionaire’s 19-year spell at Stamford Bridge came to an end in 2022 after the UK government sanctioned him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Chelsea were then taken over by a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, ushering in a new era at the club. Despite his controversial departure, Chelsea supporters remain fond of Abramovich for his success, which included five Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.
Marina Granovskaia worked closely with Abramovich at Stamford Bridge and became one of the club’s most influential figures. The former chief executive left in 2022 following the change of ownership, but their close relationship remains clear. Granovskaia has now sent Abramovich a birthday message, prompting reactions from several Chelsea legends.

Marina Granovskaia shared a heartfelt birthday message for Roman Abramovich, reflecting on their long-standing relationship and the memories they made during their time at Chelsea. She also acknowledged his milestone birthday while joking that she would rather not reveal his age.
She posted: “Wishing Roman a very happy birthday! A special milestone this year, although I’d rather not mention the number — it would only remind me that we’ve known each other for almost 30 years, which hardly seems possible.
“So many extraordinary memories along the way. Wishing him lots of happiness and many more wonderful moments to come!”

Several former Chelsea players acknowledged Granovskaia’s post, including Didier Drogba and John Terry. Drogba reposted the message, while Terry, David Luiz and Victor Moses all replied with blue heart emojis.
The players were not only showing their appreciation for Abramovich, but also for Granovskaia, who played an instrumental role behind the scenes at Chelsea. She began representing Abramovich in Chelsea’s transfer and contract negotiations in 2010 before joining the club’s board three years later.
The Russian-Canadian businesswoman became chief executive the following year and played a key role in the club’s operations during a period of major success. The Blues have not won the Premier League or Champions League since Granovskaia and Abramovich left the club.
