Before the U.S. men’s and women’s flag football teams compete in the sport’s Olympic debut in 2028 at home, they will have home-field advantage at the Nations Cup, an annual tournament debuting in Frisco, Texas, this Dec. 10-12.
The U.S. will be joined by Mexico, China and Japan in the four-team tournaments.
Pool play will be at Dr. Pink Field at the Toyota Soccer Center. Medal games will be at Ford Center at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys headquarters.
They will be the first competitive games for the U.S. since the World Championships in August in Duesseldorf, Germany.
The U.S. men won a sixth consecutive world title — coming back from their first game loss at worlds in 14 years, in group play — while the U.S. women were runner-up to Canada.
The U.S. has automatic spots in the 2028 Olympic tournaments as host nation.
The Mexican women also clinched an early spot in the 2028 Olympics by beating Great Britain in the third-place game at worlds. The Mexican men were fourth at worlds behind the U.S., Italy and Canada, missing early Olympic qualification by one spot.
The Japanese men led the U.S. with less two minutes to go in the quarterfinals at worlds before an American rally.
The last three men’s spots and women’s spots in the Olympics will be decided at the Q-Series events in Montreal and Orlando in June 2028.
After the Nations Cup, the next scheduled event for either U.S. national team is the the new Grand Slam of Flag, a women’s tournament during Super Bowl week in Los Angeles with the top four teams from worlds, plus Spain and China.
