Ike Ugbo has scored just two goals in his last 62 Sheffield Wednesday appearances.

Since joining on a permanent deal from Troyes during the summer of 2024, Ike Ugbo has really struggled in front of goal.

Therefore, the decision was made by Sheffield Wednesday chiefs to send him on loan for the season, and he joined Cypriot top-flight side Apollon Limassol in August.

That said, we’ve decided to have a closer look at how Ugbo is getting on in Cyprus, with the forward due to return to Hillsborough next June.

TalkingPoints

Steve Cooper, Paul Heckingbottom, Dave Challinor & Rob Edwards are all available… who should Sheffield Wednesday hire? 🤔

Ike Ugbo is struggling to get into Apollon Limassol’s starting XI

Ugbo has played just 101 minutes of football since arriving at Apollon Limassol, who have made a productive start to the season.

Apollon, who are situated in the second largest city in Cyprus, are yet to taste defeat and sit just one point behind the league leaders AEK Larnaca.

Evidently, Ugbo will have to remain patient to get a proper run in the side, with 30-year-old Alen Ozbolt keeping him out after scoring six goals in nine outings.

The Wednesday loanee clearly hasn’t shown enough in his six cameos and is still awaiting his first goal for the club.

Competition Appearances Starts Goals Assists
Cypriot First Division 5 0 0 0
UEFA Conference League 1 0 0 0
Total 6 0 0 0

Could Ike Ugbo return to Sheffield Wednesday in January?

Ugbo’s lack of minutes raises the question of whether he could return to Sheffield Wednesday in the January transfer window.

Wednesday chiefs won’t want him sitting on the bench for much longer, otherwise, they are better off terminating his loan and sending him to a different club.

Ugbo’s contract expires in 2028, so the Owls will need his stock to rise this season in order to get a transfer fee next summer – when they inevitably look to sanction his sale.

A telling couple of months lie ahead for the Wednesday loanee, who is next in action on Saturday when Apollon host Pafos.
