UEFA want to work "under the radar" and get behind one candidate to challenge Gianni Infantino for the FIFA presidency, GIVEMESPORT understands.

As it stands only former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega has put his name forward to challenge Infantino for the presidency, with a number of other potential candidates distancing themselves from the role.

UEFA have already called for Infantino to go, but the Swiss intends to stand in the election next March, with the English FA and German FA representatives speaking out against him following a FIFA Council meeting this week.

Debbie Hewitt, the English FA chairperson said: "We didn’t get answers to anything that we had specifically requested. I think the man [Infantino] has to answer those questions, and if he doesn’t answer those questions, he’s not fit to be Fifa president."

German FA counterpart Bernd Neuendorf went further, saying: "The whole administration has to be reformed and the whole governance has to be reformed.

But I’m pretty clear here that this is not possible with Gianni as the responsible person at FIFA. So we need a complete restart, I think, a political restart of persons who represent FIFA.

GIVEMESPORT senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs believes a candidate will be found by UEFA, in time for the November 18 deadline and that their plan has been to go under the radar in order to make it difficult for Infantino to prepare his challenge.

Speaking in his exclusive GMS newsletter, Jacobs said: "My understanding is that senior UEFA executives are still looking for a challenger to rival Gianni Infantino between now and the deadline of November 18, the election.

"For Infantino, he's trying to weather the storm, and what he's done, quite smartly, many people believe, is given more funding to each of FIFA's 211 member associations.

"So now in the next funding cycle, the proposal is that instead of $10million, a further $15million is given in addition for 2027 through to 2031. This is about Infantino dipping into FIFA's reserves and funding all the different FIFA members, and with it being one member, one vote, those kind of numbers to some of the smaller federations are game-changing, but this is really off the back of an idea suggested by UEFA and CONCACAF.

"Ramon Vega is the only person so far to come forwards and Vega will have to convince FIFA that he's been in a football-related role for at least two years within the last five, and in addition he'll need five federations to back him as well, but other names still could come forward.

"Maybe most interestingly, you have the ex-FIFA pros, Arsene Wenger working under Gianni Infantino and Luis Figo, who has spoken out against Infantino and is viewed actually, in the long run as a potential UEFA president after Alexander Ceferin, but is another name that would draw considerable support if he decides to stand.

"So let's see what happens, the feeling is that UEFA, in trying to unify behind one candidate, want to work under the radar a little bit, or in secret, right up until the deadline to give Gianni Infantino the least possible time to effectively prepare."
