Analyzing how Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Caleb Rogers played in Week 6 after earning the start at RG.
The Las Vegas Raiderssuffered a nailbiting loss in Week 6, losing a thriller 33-30 to the Buffalo Bills. One of the intriguing pregame storylines is that Caleb Rogers was named the starter at right guard. Head coach Klint Kubiak decided to start Rogers ahead of usual starter Jackson Powers-Johnson.
Rogers did not necessarily play well after also struggling in Week 4. The former Texas Tech standout was credited with allowing two pressures in pass protection. He was also whistled for a penalty.
Rogers didn't fare any better as a run blocker. The sophomore guard was consistently beaten in the trenches by the Bills' interior defensive linemen. The Raiders did not run the football effectively. They were outgained by the Bills on the ground 103-65. Ashton Jeanty was limited to 22 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, averaging 2.2 yards per carry. Jeanty had more receiving yards (36) than rushing.
Coach Kubiak will have to review the tape and assess his decision to reward Rogers with a start. Left guard Spencer Burford was the Raiders' best guard in this game. After the coaching staff reviews how Rogers performed, they'll have to decide whether to start him or Powers-Johnson versus the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7.
