Werder Bremen vs Hoffenheim - prediction, team news, lineups

Hoffenheim will hope to continue their rise up the Bundesliga table by beating hosts Werder Bremen at Weserstadion on Saturday.

Bremen come into the clash in sixth place with 12 points and have been resilient for much of the season, while 10th-placed Hoffenheim have nine points and could end the weekend as high as fifth.

Match preview

Bremen's form of late has been impressive, with the club looking to extend their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga to seven games, while a win would be fourth in that time.

However, the Green-Whites did suffer a 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal on October 27, and they will be immensely disappointed to have conceded a 93rd-minute winner after initially coming back from a 2-0 deficit.

Head coach Daniel Thioune will be delighted that his side have scored at least two goals in each of their last five matches, though the only clean sheet they have kept in their nine fixtures this season was their opening clash in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against Luneburger Hansa in August.

Bremen's displays at Weserstadion have been excellent this term, with the hosts winning two and drawing one of their three outings at home.

Thioune's side found the back of the net eight times in those contests, conceding five goals, and they have not kept a clean sheet in eight clashes at home.

Hoffenheim endured a disastrous start to the campaign, losing six of their first eight fixtures in all competitions, including four of their opening five league games.

Christian Ilzer's side appear to be on the road to recovery given they have since won three of four matches, though their most recent result was a defeat against Holstein Kiel on penalties in Wednesday's DFB-Pokal tie.

Two of Die Kraichgauer's three victories came at home, so the fact the club have lost four of their past five away clashes will be concerning to fans, though they did beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 on October 18 in their latest Bundesliga game on the road.

Hoffenheim have conceded seven goals on their travels in the league, while they managed to net on five occasions.

The visitors boast a strong record against their hosts, and another triumph on the weekend would be their fourth consecutive success when playing Bremen.

Bremen are still dealing with numerous absentees, with the likes of Justin Njinmah and Keke Topp set to miss out, though the attackers' absences will mean little if striker Niclas Fullkrug can score in an eighth consecutive game.

Midfielder Jens Stage (thigh) and defender Niklas Stark (muscle) have also been ruled out, and their injuries could lead to the selection of Ludovit Reis and Youri Regeer in front of centre-backs Amos Pieper and Marco Friedl.

Hoffenheim have several absentees of their own, including winger Alexander Prass, who picked up a red card against Bayer Leverkusen on October 25.

The visitors could field a frontline featuring Fisnik Asllani as a striker, supported by Adam Hlozek, Andrej Kramaric and Adam Daghim.

Elsewhere, the most likely duo to start in a double pivot are Leon Avdullahu and Wouter Burger, while Ozan Kabak and Koki Machida may appear in the middle of a back four.

Werder Bremen possible starting lineup:

Hein; Arthur, Pieper, Friedl, Schmetgens; Reis, Regeer; Weiser, Chuki, Grull; Fullkrug

Hoffenheim possible starting lineup:

Baumann; Coufal, Kabak, Machida, Rots; Avdullahu, Burger; Hlozek, Kramaric, Daghim; Asllani

We say: Werder Bremen 2-2 Hoffenheim

Despite their injury issues, Werder Bremen have proven difficult to beat, especially when playing at home.

Hoffenheim's record on the road this campaign may not be perfect, but they have performed well against their hosts in recent meetings, and it would not be surprising if they left Weserstadion with at least a point.
