The Tennessee Titans returned to the facility on Wednesday, and questions remain about punter Tommy Townsend's health after he injured his knee in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns. Ahead of practice, head coach Robert Saleh said Townsend was still being evaluated and offered no further update.
This news follows Tennessee’s workout with veteran punter Matt Haack on Tuesday and the signing of veteran Thomas Morstead to the practice squad Wednesday morning.
Morstead brings a wealth of experience to the Titans and should be a suitable replacement if Townsend is forced to miss time. The 40-year-old punter entered the league as a fifth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 2009 NFL Draft and spent the first 12 years of his career with the team.
Since 2021, Morstead has bounced around the league, spending time with five different organizations, most recently the Indianapolis Colts. Overall, he has punted 1,004 times, averaging 46.7 yards per punt, and placed 374 inside the 20.
If Townsend can’t go, Morstead will get the call when the Titans travel to Ohio to take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in Week 8 action.
