In recent years, golf has become more lucrative than ever. Over the past decade, prize funds have risen dramatically as the PGA Tour increased purses for its biggest events, the major championships boosted their payouts, and LIV Golf also entered the market with unprecedented financial power. The result is a professional landscape where a single victory can be worth more than $4 million and season-ending championships can offer prize funds that dwarf most other sports tournaments.
The Players Championship now offers a record $25 million purse on the PGA Tour, while the tour championship has expanded to $40 million, and LIV Golf's team championship remains the richest event in the game with a staggering $50 million prize fund, although the Saudi funding has reportedly ended, triggering a financial crisis within the league.
From traditional major championships such as The Masters and U.S. Open to LIV Golf's high-profile finale events, the following list ranks the 10 biggest prize funds currently available in men's professional golf.
One of golf's most iconic tournaments, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am forms part of the PGA Tour's signature event series. Held on California's coastline, it combines celebrity appeal with elite competition and now boasts a massive $20 million prize purse for the winner, reflecting an elevated status on the schedule.
The tournament hosted by one of the game's greats, Tiger Woods, the Genesis Invitational is one of the PGA Tour's flagship events. Its signature event designation has boosted the purse to $20 million, helping attract a world-class field each year and cementing its place among the sport's most lucrative tournaments.
Another $20 million entry, this time its the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Named after one of the sport's greatest figures and one of the richest golfers in history, the Invitational has become a key stop on the PGA Tour calendar. The tournament's elevated status means players compete for the massive purse at Bay Hill, making it one of the richest non-major events in Professional Golf.
The Memorial Tournament beats the others previously mentioned by $1 million. Founded and hosted by Jack Nicklaus, the Memorial Tournament is regarded as one of the most respected events outside the majors, and you can see why when it comes with a $20 million purse. Played at Muirfield Village, it now offers a $21 million purse and continues to attract nearly every top-ranked player in the world.
The PGA Championship would have been very low down on this list if we had done it a few years earlier, but the Championship has since increased its prize fund in recent years, reaching $22 million. As one of golf's four major championships, it combines enormous prestige with financial reward that rivals almost every other tournament on the professional circuit.
The United States Golf Association maintained the U.S. Open purse at a record $22 million in 2025, making it one of the richest majors in the world, and just missing out on the top three in this list. The event's reputation as golf's toughest test is matched by a winner's cheque that is worth more than $4 million.
The Augusta National raised the Masters purse to a record $22.5 million in 2026. The increase made it the richest of golf's four majors, with the winner collecting just under $5 million. The tournament continues to blend unmatched tradition with inreasingly lucrative rewards.
The Players Championship is often described as golf's unofficial fifth major, offering the largest purse on the PGA Tour. The 2025 edition featured a $25 million prize fund, with the champion taking home $4.5 million, the biggest winner's payout in regular tournament golf.
Quite the jump from previous entries on the list, the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake features just 30 players but offers a staggering $40 million purse. Qualification alone would be enough to guarantee a big payday, while the winner receives one of the biggest prizes available anywhere in professional golf.
Still regarded as newcomers to the sport, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tournament is unsurprisingly listed as the highest-paying event. The 2025 event offered a remarkable $50 million purse, with the winning team collecting $14 million. The event came with huge controversy, as players were forced to pick between LIV and the PGA, as the Saudi-backed association was trying to attract all the biggest names to their tournaments. However, it didn't go well, as LIV filed for bankruptcy protection in the US during 2026, after the Saudi PIF withdrew their funding. The future remains uncertain, but for now it is still the most lucrative golf tournament around.
