The Pittsburgh Steelers signed a veteran wide receiver from their practice squad to the active roster ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
On Saturday, the Steelers signed 27-year-old wide receiver Brandon Smith from their practice squad to their 53-man roster. Smith had already been elevated from the practice squad three times this season, which meant that Pittsburgh needed to sign him to the active roster in order him to play again for the team.
Smith, who began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys, also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals (2023), New York Jets (2024–2025), and New England Patriots (2025) before joining the Steelers (2026). He has appeared in six career games and recorded just 24 yards on two catches.
The Steelers also elevated a wide receiver from their practice squad for the Week 8 matchup against the Browns, which, when paired with the Smith signing, doesn't exactly bode well for Ben Skowronek (questionable) possibly returning from injury this Sunday.
