5 Jonathan Taylor Trade Destinations That Make Sense Before NFL Deadline

Now that the Indianapolis Colts’ first domino has fallen with the firing of general manager Chris Ballard, some are foreshadowing a Jonathan Taylor trade next. After back-to-back losses, the Colts are suddenly 2-4, and teams are surely placing trade calls for one of the NFL’s best running backs.

But which teams would actually be willing to trade prime draft capital (likely at least a Day 2 pick, possibly plus change) for a 27-year-old who will have over 2,000 NFL touches before the season ends? It turns out, there may be quite a few. Here are five of the most likely destinations for the First-Team All-Pro before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline arrives.

New York Giants

In Baltimore, John Harbaugh had Derrick Henry. In New York, he thought he had Cam Skattebo, but when he displayed inconsistent ball security, the team turned to Tyrone Tracy Jr., who’s been iffy in pass protection. They had also signed former 1,000-yard rusher Najee Harris, who wasn’t happy with his slim opportunities and was granted his release. Now, could the Giants solve this need once and for all by trading for one of the NFL’s best running backs? While it would surely cost at least a Day 2 pick and possibly some change, it may be an investment Joe Schoen now sees as worthwhile after previously deeming Saquon Barkley too expensive.

Las Vegas Raiders

Simply put, Ashton Jeanty, the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been a disappointment. After averaging a paltry 3.7 yards per carry as a rookie, the 23-year-old’s numbers are even worse despite more offensive success from the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, with Jeanty averaging just 3.2 yards per carry, perhaps the Colts are intrigued with the idea of taking on a former college superstar who may just need a change of scenery. After all, he’d be a lot less expensive than Taylor, who has cap hits of $21 and $22 million in the next two seasons before his contract expires. Plus, the Colts would likely still get a draft pick out of it.

Denver Broncos

It’s not just Bo Nix who’s struggling to adjust to a new season. The Denver Broncos’ rushing backfield hasn’t had a difference-maker through six weeks, even though they spent a second-round pick on RJ Harvey. While they’re surely still high on the rookie, they may be ready to give up on J.K. Dobbins, who’s averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry. The idea of a shared backfield with Taylor providing an instant jolt while being able to help Harvey acclimate to the NFL could be in Denver’s best interest to keep those Super Bowl hopes alive.

Minnesota Vikings

While Minnesota Vikings Twitter is enamored with the idea, especially considering the 31-year-old Aaron Jones is on pace for a career-high 370 touches, Jordan Mason is also returning in Week 7. His return will lighten the workload on the aging vet quite a bit, considering he actually led the Vikings with 758 rushing yards last season. Then again, both Jones and Mason are in the final year of their contracts, and it’s possible GM Nolan Teasley is ready to make a splashy move to secure a star RB who can thrive in Kevin O’Connell’s offense for years to come. Taylor is under contract through 2028 and has been one of the most dependable backs in the NFL, racking up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in five of the past six seasons.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals improved to 3-2 on the season with a 31-24 win on the road.

The Cincinnati Bengals could have one of the NFL’s very best offenses and possibly even one of the best teams too. But there are still a few things holding them back. Suddenly, Chase Brown, who has recorded 2,806 yards from scrimmage in the previous two seasons, hasn’t been able to break loose. Averaging a career-low 3.5 yards per carry and in the final year of his contract, the Bengals may be ready to jump the gun and lock down their RB of the future right now. Adding JT to an offense that features Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson just seems unfair, but also really fun.
