Aston Oxborough hails Dunfermline defence after Stenny win

Instead, the goalkeeper believes that the work of his outfield team-mates is actually making his life easier.

Oxborough recorded a second successive clean sheet on Tuesday night as Dunfermline ended Stenhousemuir's unbeaten home record, three days after winning at Queen's Park.

Whilst much has been made of their profligacy in front of goal so far this term - they've scored 10 in 12 games - their six goals conceded is only bettered by leaders, Partick Thistle.

"I don't think so, because we're in so much control in a lot of the games, so it kind of makes it easier, because we have less defending to do," Oxborough replied when asked if he and his backline feel any additional responsibility.

"It's been like that for a few weeks to be fair. The boys have been brilliant, so I can't thank them enough. They've been brilliant.

"It's sort of a different skill you need to add to your bow, when you're maybe a bit cold and not much to do, just try and stay focused from organising and stuff.

"That's kind of how I try to keep my focus for big moments.

"We know you can create chances and not score. It happens in football, so, we just had to keep plugging away and, thankfully, we've got one in the net at the end."

Whilst Rory Macleod's late winner was the decisive moment at Ochilview, Oxborough admitted his heart was in his mouth during another, involving himself, in the closing moments.

In trying to clear a high ball into his box, he collided with Hamzad Kargbo, who managed to get his head on it first - which, luckily for Dunfermline, hit the post.

"Obviously, I've just seen the ball spin in the air," he continued.

"I've tried to help the boys out and I don't even know what's happened myself to be honest. It's a big melee and then it's come off the post, luckily.

"It's a difficult venue to come to and, to keep the back door shut, and obviously get the goal in the end, it's a big three points for us."

Those three points have moved the Pars into fourth, and to within four of leaders, Partick Thistle, going into this Saturday's home clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Oxborough is keen for he and his team-mates to continue the momentum, that has seen them go nine games unbeaten, adding: "It's a half-decent stat, isn't it?

"So, we just need to keep rolling, and see where it takes us.

"You try not to look into it too much. You just take game by game, and just keep trying to put in a good performance, and win, and keep clean sheets.

"You shouldn't be too far away if you keep doing that.

"It's sort of where we ended up last year, and then we kind of want to kick on from there.

"It's been maybe a little bit of a slow start, but the performances have been there.

"If we maintain those performances, hopefully, we can just look onwards now."
