Markus Krösche has been released from his position as sporting director of Eintracht Frankfurt with immediate effect at his own request, bringing an end to more than five years in the role.

The club's supervisory board unanimously approved the decision at an extraordinary meeting on Sunday. Krösche's contract, which runs until June 30, 2028, will remain in place in an amended form, according to the club.

Krösche is regarded as one of the best sporting directors in the league and is most famous for his multiple clever transfer deals, where he brought in young talent for small fees and sold them for much more - these transfers included the likes of Luka Jovic, Omar Marmoush and Randal Kolo Muani.

The decision follows several weeks of discussions between Krösche and supervisory board chairman Mathias Beck. The talks focused on Frankfurt's current sporting situation, the club's future and the continuation of their working relationship.

Krösche explained that he had increasingly felt the need for a personal change after more than five successful but demanding years at the club.

"When you reach this point, you also begin to lose some of the drive required for such a demanding role," he said, adding that a fresh impetus could also benefit Eintracht Frankfurt.

During his tenure, Krösche played a key role in the club's development, including their Europa League triumph and subsequent appearances in the Champions League. Beck paid tribute to the outgoing sporting director's contribution to Frankfurt's progress.

"Markus Krösche has had a decisive influence on Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years," the supervisory board chairman said.

Beck also stressed the demands of the position, saying that such a challenging role required complete conviction and the necessary drive at all times.

Both parties wanted to establish clarity ahead of the club's upcoming general meeting. Krösche intends to say his personal goodbyes to the members on that occasion.

The immediate release is also intended to give both Krösche and the club sufficient time to prepare for the future. Frankfurt have not yet announced who will succeed him as sporting director.

Krösche thanked Beck, the supervisory board and his fellow executives, as well as the club's employees, coaches, players and supporters, for their cooperation during his time in Frankfurt.
