Derek McInnes hails new signing after first Rangers goal

Rangers managed to claw back from an early setback to lead in the second half, but a mistake allowed Callum Jones to level the score for Dundee.

Badredine Bouanani, returning to the starting XI, scored an impressive equaliser, and Rangers looked set for victory when Nico Raskin put them ahead.

However, McInnes was left frustrated as his side couldn't hold on to their advantage. He told Sky Sports: "Disappointment, obviously, when you come from a goal behind. I thought the first half, we never get Minsu Kim close enough to Naderi.

"We didn't feed our wide players early enough."

He acknowledged Dundee's solid press and said that Rangers struggled to draw out centre-backs and exploit spaces as planned. The Rangers boss added: "We knew we had to defend well.

"I've seen Dundee often this season, and the biggest port of call for us tonight for defenders had to be good defenders. I don't think we were quite settled for periods in the first half.

"I thought their front two were a handful."

McInnes praised Dundee's performance and admitted they were deserving of their lead. However, he also commended his team's response to falling behind. He said: "I thought the response was good to going behind."

Rangers upped the tempo significantly in the second half, with McInnes pleased with the energy and speed shown by his side. He said: "In the second half, we came out and we came flying out of the traps.

"We started getting up in second balls better, winning more duels, defended far more confidently, fed our wide players quicker, and there was just more speed in the game.

"And we scored an unbelievable goal that we should be talking about. It deservedly should have been a winner."

However, McInnes was particularly frustrated with the manner in which Dundee equalised for the second time. He said: "We got punished for the mistake.

"And Dundee are a good team, but I thought we've gifted an opportunity there not to take all three points."

The Rangers boss also praised Bouanani for his performance, saying: "Bouanani scores; he justifies his selection with a brilliant goal.

"And he was a constant threat in the second half."

Finally, McInnes applauded the travelling Rangers support but admitted his players did not maintain their high level of performance for long enough. He said: "The fans were magnificent tonight.

"And we just weren't magnificent for as long as we needed to be to win the game."
