Dunham quarterback Elijah Haven continues to rewrite the record books after he collected another state record on Friday night.

The Alabama commit tossed five touchdowns in a 55-6 win against Episcopal. His third score tied Brock Berlin’s record for most passing touchdowns in a career (formerly 145) that was set in 1999. Haven’s fourth and fifth put him in first with 147.

Haven now owns four state records, three of which he set last year. He holds the state record for total touchdowns in a career (196), passing touchdowns in a single season (62) and total touchdowns in a single season (73).

Dunham is 5-3 after winning its last two games in Haven’s return from an injury.

U-High’s offensive fireworks

The Cubs faced one of their biggest tests of the year Friday night against West Feliciana, which was undefeated entering the matchup. The most points the Saints had allowed in any game prior to Week 8 was 23 points, but they failed to slow down a potent U-High offense.

University High piled up the points in a 58-30 win, showing why the team is No. 2 in the LSWA Class 3A poll. Quarterback Knox Kiffin threw three touchdowns and passed for 206 yards. He also had a rushing and receiving touchdown each. His top target, Kevin Smith, has proven to be one of the top receivers in the area ,with offers from Ole Miss, Miami and Vanderbilt. Smith caught all three touchdowns Friday night.

The run game is also reaching its full potential with the duo of Corbin Odell and three-star recruit Caiden Bellard, who ran for 82 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns. Odell added 58 yards on 10 carries.

“They’re monsters,” Cubs coach Andy Martin said. “You see it in the fourth quarter. They’re fresh all the time. They want each other to do well. They’re playing off one another great, and they have a great relationship.”

Bellard noted how difficult it is for defenses to deal with Odell and him.

“We’ve got two backs in the back that you’ve got to stop,” Bellard said. “You’ve got to see us. It’s too many weapons on the team.”

Madison Prep’s stingy defense

The Chargers defense has been a problem for teams all season, and Thursday night was no different. Madison Prep defeated St. Michael 32-3 on the road and held the Warriors to just 99 yards of offense.

Madison Prep collected three interceptions and forced two safeties. One safety came from senior Jamyris Allen, who has more than 10 sacks this year.

“We executed all of our plays,” Allen, a Nicholls commitment, said. “We’re a team, so we’ve got to play as team.”

The Chargers are allowing just 13.9 points per game this year. The defense has compiled three shutouts. Madison Prep has won its last five games and is allowing just 4.6 points per game during that stretch. Paired with an electric offense guided by freshman QB Jacobe Shannon, the Chargers could be a real threat to make a deep run in the playoffs.
