The NFL trade deadline is less than two weeks away, and deals have started. The Arizona Cardinals already made one deal, sending receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans. Rumors are beginning to swirl about other players.
One player whose name comes up almost yearly is safety Budda Baker.
He at one point in his career requested a trade. According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, despite the 2-5 record the Cardinals have and the 5-19 record over the last two seasons, Baker has not had any trade conversations with general manager Monti Ossenfort.
Per Weinfuss, Baker hasn't requested a trade, but he also hasn't asked Ossenfort not to be traded. In other words, he doesn't want to go, but he wouldn't be upset if he were.
"My approach is I'm here," Baker said. "I'm here. I want to win. I want to be here. And I'm just controlling what I can control, just taking it one week at a time, and hopefully when the deadline ends, I'll still be here. If not, I mean, it's a business. I understand at the end of the day and that's it."
Baker is signed through 2027. He is playing good football. He is an eight-time Pro Bowler and has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven straight years. He has a career-high 3.5 sacks and has an interception in seven games. He is pacing for another 100-tackle season, which would be his seventh season to reach 100 tackles.
Now, the Cardinals are fairly thin at safety. Andrew Wingard has missed three games with a knee injury. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson and Kitan Crawford are the other ones on the roster. They have used cornerback Garrett Williams more this season in a safety role, too.
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10. We will see if the Cardinals make any other moves before then.
