Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, was allegedly on the receiving end of prior undisclosed compensation from a business at the helm of the 2026 World Cup, according to FIFA and U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) documents.
The minimal transparency around the alleged compensation is a possible violation of FIFA statutes.
The alleged compensation was added to the regular FIFA salary and benefits paid to Infantino in 2024. According to the financial reports from FIFA for the year, Infantino made 4.274m CHF, which is approximately $4.86 million.
In FIFA's annual report in 2024, the extra compensation wasn't disclosed. 2024 is also the last year that FWC2026's Form 990 is made available to the public.
It reads in Article 43, paragraph 13 of FIFA's statutes that, "The Compensation Sub-Committee shall in particular define Compensation Rules and determine the compensation of the FIFA President, the members of the Council and the FIFA Secretary General.
"The individual compensation of the FIFA President, the members of the Council and the FIFA Secretary General shall be made public," per ESPN.
A spokesperson from FIFA told ESPN through text message, "FIFA fully complies with all reporting requirements and strongly rejects any suggestion there has been a violation of FIFA's Statutes."
