The Denver Broncos got a huge break late in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers when safety Devon Key came up with an incredible interception.
On first-and-goal from Denver's one-yard line, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young threw a pass to tight end Tommy Tremble in the end zone with linebacker Justin Strnad in coverage. The ball ended up bouncing off Tremble's hand and Broncos safety Devon Key grabbed it before it hit the ground.
Key initially braced for contact after securing the ball, but officials whistled the play dead, assuming the ball had hit the ground when it bounced into the air. Before Carolina was able to run another play, Denver coach Sean Payton challenged the ruling on the field. After review, the Broncos were awarded an interception.
Here's a sampling of how Twitter/X reacted to the wild turnover:
Instead of defending 2nd-and-goal at the one-yard line, Denver got the ball back at their own 20-yard line following Key's interception that was ruled a touchback in the end zone.
