Draymond Green says he's 'not Steph Curry,' wants to play another year even if he leaves Golden State Warriors
Draymond Green on his future with the Golden State Warriors

Four-time NBA champion Draymond Green said he would love to retire as a member of the Golden State Warriors, but he plans to keep playing next season, even if that means joining another team.

Green was drafted by the Warriors in 2012 and has spent all 14 seasons of his career with Golden State. He signed a one-year deal with the team in July.

In an interview with CNBC Sport, Green said he plans to approach this season as though it could be his last with the Warriors.

"I would love to retire a Golden State Warrior. However, I'm also not Steph Curry, right? So I don't have every luxury that Steph Curry has, and that's okay," Green said. "It's such a rare thing to be on one team your entire career. And if I can accomplish that feat, I would love to."

Curry expressed a similar desire to stay with the franchise when he spoke with CNBC in September.

"I want to be a lifer with the Golden State Warriors," Curry said on CNBC's Squawk on the Street.

Shortly after that interview, Curry signed a two-year contract extension worth a reported $116 million that keeps him with Golden State through the 2028-29 season.

But Green acknowledged that his future with the Warriors is less certain.

He said he won't harbor any "ill feelings" toward the franchise if his time with the team ends after this season.

"I would love to play basketball next year...if that's not here, I'm not going to retire," he said.

Green said he understands that the Warriors will weigh business considerations when deciding his future and hopes he fits into the team's plans.

"If I don't, great. But I'm extremely grateful for the journey that I've been on here," he added.

Last season, the Warriors power forward averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. Golden State went 37-45 and missed the playoffs.

This season, head coach Steve Kerr has made adjustments to the offense that include playing faster and spacing out the floor differently. Green, who won NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, is being asked to get down the floor faster and not trail the play.

Green said he doesn't take entering his 15th season with the Warriors for granted and feels "blessed" to have spent his entire NBA career with the franchise.

"I don't know how many years I have left in the NBA, let alone at this place," he said. "For me, it's all about enjoying what's in front of us."
