Ajinkya Rahane highlighted how Naman Dhir's aggressive batting transformed India's chase in the second T20I against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday, October 24. India were positioned at 70 for 5 in the 11th over when Dhir walked to the crease, with the team needing to chase down a target of 181 runs. The all-rounder's counter-attacking approach proved decisive in India's eventual 4-wicket victory with one ball to spare.

Rahane, speaking after the match, emphasised how Dhir's innings altered the course of the game. The former India captain noted that Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell had dominated India's batting during the first 14 to 15 overs of the chase, putting the visitors under considerable pressure. Dhir struck three sixes during his brief stay at the crease, accumulating 31 runs off just 17 balls before getting out in Santner's final over.

"What a turnaround. In the first 14-15 overs, if you see Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell's spells, they dominated. I feel Naman Dhir's innings changed the game completely. He took the risk there. He played a brave innings," Rahane said during a discussion on Sony Sports.

Rahane underscored the impact of this aggressive phase on India's momentum in the chase and the role of the finishers who followed. The counter-attacking approach by Dhir created the platform that allowed the middle order to accelerate and complete the successful run chase.

Following Dhir's departure, Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy completed the chase, guiding India to victory. Varma was named Player of the Match for his contribution to the successful run chase. India captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the character shown by the middle order, stating that when consecutive wickets fell, the game appeared to be slipping away before Nitish and Tilak demonstrated the resilience required to secure the win.

"He hit three sixes in between. He scored 31 runs off 17 balls. I think the entire momentum changed from there, and Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy finished the game after that. Why is the Indian team champions in this format? It's because they have different match-winners," Rahane added.
