Despite reports on Tuesday night that Watford were set to sack their head coach after a 5-1 loss at Cardiff City, there is an understanding that Dionisi retains the backing of the club’s owner, Gino Pozzo.
The club are also understood to recognise that they have been too hasty with managerial decisions in the past, and are therefore keen to give Dionisi more time to turn the club’s fortunes around.
Dionisi will be under no illusions about the need for swift improvement, however, after back-to-back four-goal defeats have left Watford in the relegation zone.
Watford face another quick turnaround before Saturday’s early kick-off, when the Hornets host 12th-placed Charlton Athletic, who are winless in their last seven Championship games.
With only three games in the next three weeks, Dionisi will be able to utilise more time in training that he had between the Burnley and Cardiff defeats to help his squad get back on track.
After Saturday’s game against Burnley, Dionisi insisted that hard work is the best way for Watford to get back on track, and he reiterated that on Tuesday, and insisted that he wants to take responsibility.
“I want to take responsibility,” he insisted. “I want to work with my players because, for me, it’s possible to arrive at good results together.”
