It took Tottenham Hotspur seven games to tick the win column in the Premier League. Indeed, a 3-1 win over newly promoted Coventry City on Monday evening eased some pressure off Roberto De Zerbi and his players. It lifted them from the bottom of the table after a dismal start to the 2026/27 campaign.
Spurs’ next Premier League assignment is a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday. Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping that Tottenham’s latest result can spark their season into life and give his boys the confidence to beat Chelsea. However, the Lilywhites’ record against the Blues has been far less encouraging, so De Zerbi will need every resource possible to stun Xabi Alonso’s team.
Heading into the Chelsea game, Tottenham have had several players with question marks hanging over their heads. De Zerbi still has several absentees to contend with, despite welcoming James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski back against Coventry City.
The victory over Coventry did not come without problems, with Tosin Adarabioyo, Andy Robertson and Omar Marmoush being forced off in the second half. The Spurs boss assured after the game that none of Tosin, Robertson and Marmoush suffered any injury setbacks. Marmoush handed the fans a lift after having pictured back in training alongside Pedro Porro, who is set to return this weekend.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, De Zerbi provided the latest update on his squad (h/t Football London):
“Pedro is back. Robertson is available. Marmoush is good. Solanke is good. Lucas Bergvall, Savio out, nothing more. Bentancur suspended.”
It is great to learn that none of Robertson, Tosin and Marmoush suffered any issues from the Coventry game, and the trio are available to face Chelsea. Tosin and Robertson were solid in defence, alongside Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke, on Monday. To have everyone available gives De Zerbi the luxury to retain his back four for Saturday’s derby.
Porro’s availability again is also a massive boost. The Spaniard has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury, but he’s quickly worked his way back to fitness. After recovering from a hamstring issue, the 27-year-old is unlikely to be thrown straight into the mix in a fixture that is known for its intensity, flying tackles, passion and aggression. If needed, Porro could be brought on from the bench.
