There’s no time for Liverpool to rest after beating Chelsea, with yet another huge game to come this weekend as Arsenal comes to town.
Having secured their spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a penalty shootout triumph over Xabi Alonso’s side, the Reds will turn their attention back to Premier League matters, with the defending champions providing their next stern test.
Andoni Iraola will likely turn to experience again after placing his faith in some of the club’s youngsters against Chelsea, and the Liverpool boss will hope he can call upon one or two of his injured cohort on Sunday.
Here is the latest on the injury front ahead of Liverpool's game against Arsenal this weekend...
Dominik Szoboszlai may be in line to return against Arsenal this weekend, having missed the last three games after being forced off against Brentford.
The midfielder has not yet returned to training with his teammates, but Iraola has confirmed he is back out on the grass, meaning he shouldn’t be too far away from making a comeback.
Given he didn’t last long on his return against Brentford, Iraola will have to be cautious, but it does seem as though Szoboszlai is on course to return before the international break.
Possible return date: November 1 vs Arsenal
Like Szoboszlai, Victor Munoz doesn’t seem to be too far away from a return, with Iraola having hinted that the pair could have played against Chelsea on Wednesday.
Although neither were named in the squad, they shouldn’t be too far away from being back in action, with Sunday’s game against Arsenal the first target.
Iraola should reveal more when he speaks to the media again on Friday, but we will hopefully see Munoz back before the international break.
Possible return date: November 1 vs Arsenal
Jeremie Frimpong will have to wait a little longer to make his return, having also picked up a new issue at Brentford.
Unlike Szoboszlai and Munoz, the Netherlands international is not expected to return before the upcoming international break, although Iraola did leave some wiggle room when he said the club would “try” to have him back fit as soon as possible.
Assuming that won’t be the case, Frimpong will likely be targeting a return to training while the rest of his teammates are away with their respective countries.
Possible return date: November 22 vs Manchester United
Giovanni Leoni’s return is taking longer than expected, with the young defender still having not made a return to training following his ACL injury.
Having been touted for a return to training during the last international break, it now seems as though the upcoming break in November will be his next target, although Liverpool will not want to rush the 19-year-old.
"A lot of things around the knee were involved,” Iraola said earlier this month. “We have to be very careful with him, and we want to make sure that when he comes back into the team, he stays there. It is a little bit later than what we expected."
Possible return date: December
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
The long wait for Conor Bradley to return could be over soon, with Iraola having given a promising update on the right-back's recovery.
Bradley appears to be on track to make a return to group training next month, which could lead to him being back in action before the end of the year - and not a moment too soon, considering Liverpool is running low on options on the right of the defense.
“I think [he is] in a good place," Iraola said recently. "Conor is not so far from training with the group – not like full training but doing some things with the group. I think Conor is not very far from starting doing things with us."
Possible return date: December
Hugo Ekitike also looks like he's on the right track in his recovery, and given the outlook didn't look promising when he ruptured his Achilles, having him back before the end of 2026 would be a huge boost.
Of course, Liverpool will have to err on the side of caution with him, but reports in France have indicated that he will be targeting a return to training in November, before potentially returning to action around the Christmas period.
"Hugo is a little bit behind [Bradley] that but that was always the plan. He is still doing very well according to the plan," Iraola said recently.
