Dale Earnhardt Jr has issued a rallying cry to two NASCAR drivers, urging them to make one final push to stop Kyle Larson
Dale Earnhardt Jr has urged Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano to make one final push to stop Kyle Larson, challenging the NASCAR duo to throw a last-ditch Hail Mary.
With four races remaining, the Hendrick Motorsports driver holds a 49-point lead over Denny Hamlin, with Christopher Bell 51 points behind, Chase Briscoe 65 back, Ryan Blaney 85 adrift and Joey Logano trailing by 92.
Despite Larson's advantage, Earnhardt Jr believes the remaining races at Phoenix, Talladega and Martinsville could give his rivals an opportunity to close the gap. He also highlighted the importance of stage points and avoiding costly pit stop errors as the playoff battle intensifies.
Blaney and Logano remain among those chasing Larson, but both face an uphill task if they are to overhaul the points leader before the season reaches its conclusion.
Earnhardt Jr. has addressed Larson's championship advantage, warning that his points lead is no guarantee of securing the NASCAR title. He said: "Now, 49 points ahead. Don't think it's a big deal. I mean, you got Denny Hamlin at 49, Christopher Bell at 51, Chase Briscoe 65 back. And then Ryan Blaney is 85 back, Joey Logano 92 back."
Earnhardt Jr. highlighted Phoenix, Talladega and Martinsville as crucial opportunities for Blaney and Logano to close the gap on Larson before Homestead. He believes strong performances across the three races could leave both drivers within 15 to 20 points of the championship leader heading into the finale.
"You're coming up on Phoenix, Talladega, and Martinsville. That's a chance for Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano to throw their final Hail Mary. This is it,"added the 52-year-old.
Hamlin, Bell and Briscoe are closer to Larson in the standings and could quickly reignite the championship battle if the Hendrick Motorsports driver drops points. Earnhardt Jr. believes the trio could move back into contention within a week if Larson loses ground.
He also warned that pit stop errors and missed stage points could prove costly, even if Larson continues to record strong finishes. "Right now, they're perfect. Their pit stops are great. Everything's great. Car's great," Earnhardt Jr. said.
However, he pointed to other drivers losing positions through slow pit stops or being forced to return to pit road for repairs, warning that similar problems could allow Larson's rivals to close the gap. "And one of these other drivers, Denny, Christopher Bell, or Briscoe, gets a great stage at 10 points. That's a big chunk right there," he added.
Earnhardt Jr. believes a couple of poor stage results could quickly change the picture, even if Larson still finishes strongly. While the points leader appears to have a comfortable advantage, the NASCAR Hall of Famer insisted the title race remains far from settled. "It's very compelling; it looks like it's a runaway for Larson, but it's still, to me, when I look at these numbers, this is a tight race to me. It looks like it's still anybody's."
