After braving harsh weather conditions at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship to secure the title, two-time PGA Tour champion Austin Smotherman credited his victory to his late father.

Smotherman defeated Seamus Power with a par-3 on the third playoff hole, as both players parred the 16th hole the first two attempts and had all day Sunday to prepare for the final Monday morning moments on the PGA Tour. The win and weather chaos come as Tiger Woods seems to be preparing for a possible PGA Tour comeback.

Sunday’s final round was canceled thanks to weather conditions, as harsh winds powered through at 40mph at Port Royal Golf Course, forcing Smotherman and Power to finish off the tournament after just three rounds and play in a Monday morning sudden-death playoff.

Smotherman earned a PGA Tour Championship Series membership through 2029 with the win, but he didn’t take all the credit, as he won wearing a special memento remembering his late father.

“It's just my dad's necklace with a little arrowhead that he used to wear forever,” said Smotherman after the win in Bermuda.

“He passed away a couple years ago. I always have it in my golf bag. The week in Utah, it had somehow come out and didn't have it.

“I wear it sporadically when I feel like I want him a little closer to me, and this week was one of those weeks where I know he would have loved it here. To get a win here and be thinking about him all week was pretty cool.”

Smotherman picked up his second PGA Tour title after winning his first in his most recent start at the Bank of Utah Championship, and he joins seven other players in becoming a multiple winner on Tour.

The 32-year-old was grinning from ear to ear after defeating Power, and he was excited to get home and spend time with loved ones after pocketing $1,080,000.

"When I won in Utah, I had forgotten my dad's necklace at home that week and I wore it all week this week, brought them to the islands with me. This one's for him," said Smotherman.

Giving advice to those on the PGA Tour who have yet to win, 32-year-old Smotherman said the time is coming.

“It can literally happen at any time,” said Smotherman.

“We say it every week, everybody out here's so good, anybody can win on any given week. That's what makes our sport so great.

“There's Scottie Scheffler's of the world that know how to win a lot more frequently every single year, but I think I'm getting a little bit of a taste of what they feel, a top player like that as far as just so much freedom every single week and feeling like what you're doing, you're getting the validation with the results but also just the immense trust you have in the process that you've devised.”
