Aston Villa boss, Unai Emery could be the manager who would leave a long lasting legacy in Villa Park.
Aston Villa is bouncing back slowly and steadily at the top form in all competitions after three winless runs with the fewest shots at the beginning of the season. Yesterday afternoon, they managed to thump Manchester City 2-1. It is the league leader’s first defeat. It was also Villa’s first win at home.
At the same time, the Aston Villa boss is once again linked to the Manchester United job again which is already the second time in a row after last season. However, considering his situation at the moment and how powerful his influence at B6 plus his in-depth connection with the club’s ownership is beyond imagination. The notable football writer Chris Nee put it finely as reported in FourFourTwo.
“Emery is proven and trusted at Villa. More importantly, he is entrenched even more deeply than his command in B6 and at Bodymoor Heath suggest.”
Therefore, it is very unlikely that he would be interested in switching sides to Old Trafford or even other elite sides like Real Madrid. In fact, the Basque boss is still aiming for consistency at the top level with The Clarets and Blue. What is Emery exactly up for? Does he find comfort already in the West Midlands?
Emery still has a burning ambition to guide Villa to consistently finish on a high note in each season. His success in ending the 30-year title drought when John McGinn and Co lifted the Europa League trophy was not the end of the Spaniard’s target. It is meant to be their foundation to achieve further.
Emery’s contract expires in summer 2029. With three seasons left, he has the luxury of adding more silverware for his team. The most probable titles Villa could win this season might be the domestic cups. EFL League Cup or ending the FA Cup glory drought might be something Emery could achieve, while trying to reach as far as possible in the Champions League and finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
In the following two seasons prior to his contract expiry date, Emery, with his newly built team, could possibly target to win one of the two most coveted trophies, Premier League or Champions League. Both are immensely difficult to win. However, judging from the current Villa team and its potentials, his team could probably snatch one of them. The Premier League might be slightly more doable than UCL.
Should that happen, Emery would leave a long lasting legacy in Bodymoor Heath. He is already the manager with the best winning rate in history so far, up to 55.50 %. Two more silverwares at least, one domestic cup and one league title would place him the best manager in the club’s history. His name is likely to be cemented in the Villa’s hall of fame.
Those three titles could make him equal to Ron Saunders, as The Lions’ manager with most titles in modern history. Saunders won the league in 1981 plus EFL League Cup in 1975 and 1977. Emery would definitely be placed higher than him as the former Sevilla and PSG boss would not take longer to win those silverwares, should he leave Villa Park in 2029. He will only have stayed for seven years, one year shorter than Saunders’ eight-year spell.
Let us hope he could materialise it. In Emery we trust!
