Newcastle United line-ups vs Aston Villa with Osula agreement and Toure switch

Matthias Jaissle has options if he wants to freshen up his Newcastle United starting XI tonight

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle is expected to have the same squad available to him that went to Coventry when they face Aston Villa at St James' Park tonight.

The question is, how many of the XI which started that game will be named when the team sheet drops this evening? Jaissle has options to change things, but will be guided by the medical team when it comes to minutes for the likes of Joelinton, Amar Dedic, Will Osula and Dan Burn, after their spells on the sidelines.

Sean Steur was an unused subsitute at Coventry but is pushing for a start, while Bazoumana Toure impressed in the second half, before picking up a knock.

With all the talk about tactics and formations this week, it will be facinating to see how United respond after their second big setback of the season. Here's how our team of NUFC would set up tonight.

What has been clear this season is that Matthias Jaissle is selecting the team based on guidance from his medical team. This is something that Eddie Howe appeared to push against at times and would squeeze extra minutes from some stars if the occasion calls for it.

That certainly appears to be the dilemma for Joelinton going into this game with Jaissle suggesting he is on the brink of a start. Whether he plays him or not remains to be seen but I'd try to get an hour out of the Brazilian in this game.

His phsyicality and ball winning will be key in this clash so I'd use him as the second holding midfielder alongside Nico Gonzalez. Quite who you play as the number 10 is another matter, but perhaps giving Yoane Wissa another chance in there seems to be the best bet given the lack of options and inconsistent form of Joe Willock.

Willock must be close to being dropped after a disappointing night in Coventry and a role as impact sub may suit this game. I'd start with Bazoumana Toure on the left and switch Harvey Barnes to the right in attack.

If William Osula can give the team an hour then great with Matias Fernandez-Pardo taking a breather on the bench.

My NUFC XI: Hornicek, L Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Joelinton, Gonzalez, Toure, Wissa, Barnes, Osula

This is perhaps one of Matthias Jaissle's most difficult starting XI choices yet as he looks for a reaction to Monday's dismal 4-1 defeat to Coventry City. There are question marks over a number of players and also question marks over Jaissle's system.

I would personally switch back to 4-3-3 but I feel like Jaissle will stick with his tried and trusted system. Nonetheless, this is the team I would like to see against Villa so I will make that tactical tweak.

I think if Amar Dedic is fit enough to start he will do, which can move Lewis Miley back into midfield. In an ideal world I would replace Sven Botman with Dan Burn, too, but Jaissle confirmed yesterday the club captain is not ready to start just yet. I still feel like the Dutchman needs to come out of the firing line though so I would start Fabian Schar in his place.

If Jaissle was sticking with 4-2-3-1 I would have liked to have seen Sean Steur alongside Nico Gonzalez but his 'one or the other' argument actually has more merit in a 4-3-3, with only one of those players being able to play at the base of midfield.

I think Gonzalez just about gets the nod, which may seem harsh - particularly given I was critical of the decision not to play Steur on Monday - but I think a midfield three, with legs around him, is where you would see the best of the £50million man.

I would put Miley and Joelinton either side of him and out wide, if Bazoumana Toure is fit enough I would start him on the right-hand side and Harvey Barnes on the left.

Up front leaves a big decision. Does he stick with Matias Fernandez-Pardo (it sounded like he would do), does he move Yoane Wissa further forward, or does Will Osula come back in? That will depend on how fit the Danish international is but if he can do at least 60 minutes I think it is time to recall him to the side.

My NUFC XI: Hornicek; Dedic, Thiaw, Schar, Hall; Miley, Gonzalez, Joelinton; Toure, Barnes; Osula

Aston Villa's big strength is their midfield, so Newcastle can simply not afford to be too lightweight in this area, as they were at Leeds United and Coventry. That doesn't necessarily mean playing a 4-3-3, but it does mean having someone in the attacking midfield role who knows how to do it.

Presuming Amar Dedic is OK to start, I would switch Lewis Miley back into midfield and play either him or Sean Steur as the link with the forward line, which should allow Nico Gonzalez more support - and therefore time to be effective.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo's confidence needs a boost, but dropping him to the bench won't achieve that, so I'm keeping him in the side but moving him to the left flank, with Harvey Barnes on the right.

This allows Will Osula to come back in as a central striker. If he's not yet match fit, then Yoane Wissa should get the nod.

My NUFC XI: Hornicek, Dedic, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Gonzalez, Steur, Miley, Fernandez-Pardo, Barnes, Osula
