Brighton and Hove Albion 5 Crystal Palace 0
Fabian Hürzeler can take some pride in avenging the 1-0 defeat inflicted by the Seagulls’ arch-rivals on their last visit to the Amex in February.
Brighton and Hove Albion ran the show at Falmer this afternoon (Sunday 18 February) and settled the home fans’ nerves with three goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Just after half-time the score was 4-0 and Jack Hinshelwood, on as a sub, capped the afternoon with a fifth.
The scoring started when Anan Khalaili gave away a free-kick a few minutes after kick-off.
Jaydee Canvot got his head to the ball but sent the ball into his own net.
Minutes later Diego Gomez made it 2-0 with a strike from distance.
With 10 minutes on the clock, Charalampos Kostoulas played in Yasin Ayari. His deflected shot left Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez helpless and Brighton fans overjoyed.
More attempts followed, with Ayari, Kostoulas and Kadioglu having a stab.
And Ayari had the best of the early chances after the break. His shot was blocked and Kostoulas pounced on the rebound for 4-0.
Hinshelwood added a fifth with just minutes left on the clock to make it five and leave Albion fans in seventh heaven.
