What the Bears are getting in new All-Pro DT Jeffery Simmons

The Chicago Bears made a splash in trading for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, sending a pair of first-round picks to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for one of the NFL's best defensive players.

In the last two seasons, Simmons, 29, has totaled 15 sacks, including a career-high 11 in 2025 and currently has four this season. Simmons is a three-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler and has totaled 44.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and 30 pass deflections. He's arguably the best (if not second-best) defensive tackle in the NFL, and it answers a huge need along the defensive interior for Dennis Allen's defense.

We spoke to Mark Mihalko of Titans Wire, who gave us the rundown on what we can expect from the Bears' new defensive tackle and why he could be a good fit for Chicago.

What kind of player are the Bears getting in Jeffery Simmons?

The Bears are getting a locker-room leader and a dominant force on the field. Simmons has grown into a leader over the past few seasons, and that's been huge in Nashville. On the field, he can take over games and dominate as a run-stopper and pass rusher. He is one of (if not) the best defensive tackles in the game.

What’s Simmons’ biggest strength?

His ability to get into the backfield and disrupt offenses. He has the strength to fight off double teams and the quickness to beat linemen off the snap. When he is engaged, he can take over a game.

What is Simmons’ weakness?

His biggest weakness is that he sometimes plays to his competition, which can be frustrating. He can dominate, but when matchups suggest he should feast, they often fall flat. It's not clear whether this is an engagement issue or something else, because he always plays with a high motor, but sometimes the results don’t match what the matchups would predict.

What impact did Simmons have with the Titans?

Simmons grew into his role as a dominant force on the field and a team leader on and off the field. He will leave the organization as one of its best defensive tackles, and that will be hard for some fans to swallow.

Why do you think Simmons could be a good fit for the Bears?

Simmons is a force along the defensive front, and when given a chance, he can take over games. With Chicago pushing for the playoffs, Simmons will likely play with even more edge after all the losses in Nashville. He is a real one, and both the fans and the organization should love everything he brings to the table.
