Rob Gronkowski could not help but make a pointed comment aimed at Terry Bradshaw during a moment on FOX NFL Sunday.
Oct. 25 is known as Tight Ends Day, a holiday recognized around the NFL to celebrate all those who play the position. It was originally envisioned by San Francisco 49ers stars George Kittle and Garrett Celek in 2018, and the day has gained more prominence over the years.
And on the day, Gronkowski, the four-time Super Bowl-winning tight end, took a beat to praise Kittle, which led to a moment between himself and Bradshaw, just another in what has been a long season for the 78-year-old.
"George, thank you for everything you have done for the tight end position with National Tight End Day, also the tight end camp that you have every summer," Gronkowski began during the segment. In the background, Bradshaw asked his co-hosts to confirm that Oct. 25 was indeed National Tight Ends Day.
"Is it Tight Ends Day? Is It Tight Ends Day? I didn't know," a seemingly confused Bradshaw was overheard asking the panel. In turn, Gronkowski replied, "It is, yes. Yes, you've just been on another planet, OK, Terry?"
After the brief interruption, Gronkowski continued to give Kittle his flowers. "Just his high energy that he brings to the table, he's just such a high motor, he's the captain of that offensive, you know, you know, offensive unit for the San Francisco 49ers with George Kittle, but the Niners are down their top six receivers right now and they're undefeated," he added.
Along with that moment with Gronkowski, the 78-year-old appeared to struggle as he was tasked with doing FOX's highlight package during halftime. His stumble was noticed by fans, who quickly took to social media to express their displeasure with FOX and Bradshaw's overall performance.
"Please get Terry Bradshaw off tv - dude has no idea what he’s saying," one comment read on X. Another added, "Terry Bradshaw is unable to speak and FOX insists on having him do highlight reels."
A third fan posted, "Terry Bradshaw losing it on TV slurring the f--- outta his words. I hope it’s the mimosa this morning and not the inevitable."
A fourth commenter shared a simliar sentiment and summed up the situation with Bradshaw, writing, "i don’t want to be mean, and lord knows i couldn’t do it… by WHY do they have terry bradshaw doing the halftime highlights? he can’t do it."
These two instances are just the latest in what has been a trying season for Bradshaw. The Pittsburgh Steelers legend has been with FOX for over three decades and despite how long he has been with the network, he did have a strange spat with longtime coworker Michael Strahan last week.
During a segment in which they discussed why running backs were part of the MVP race, Strahan noted that "edge" players prioritize pass rushing over stopping the run.
Bradshaw butt in to state: "Would you be an edge rusher now?" "I could do it all. I did it all," Strahan responded. Bradshaw apologized with, "Shame on me for asking!"
It seemed cooler heads prevailed, with Strahan emphasizing he wasn't offended.
