Petr Yan has become the latest fighter in the UFC to receive his own pair of custom shorts.
This coming weekend, the premier promotion returns to the Middle East for UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, with a title fight double header in the main and co-main events.
In the co-main event, Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili clash in the latest trilogy in the sport, with the pair 1-1 heading into their five round bantamweight title fight.
And ahead of what is going to be his first title defense of his second reign as a champion, ‘No Mercy’ Yan has been given his own pair of custom shorts.
Ever since the UFC stopped allowing fighters to have their own sponsors on their fight kit, fans have complained that the look has become too boring. Despite that, over the past few years, certain fighters have been afforded the luxury of having their own custom shorts.
Fighters like Conor McGregor, Max Holloway and Islam Makhachev to name a few have donned their own designs in the cage, once again having the chance to show a bit of their personality in their fight kit. Joshua Van and Arman Tsarukyan were given custom shorts last, but now, the Russian champion’s new design has been revealed.
Despite being custom, the design of Yan’s shorts are extremely basic while depicting the Russian flag and his moniker ‘No Mercy’, with the asymmetric design using Slavic patterning. However, fans have offered their reactions to Yan’s new short, labeling them as the ‘ugliest’ custom shorts yet.
“These are a–, holy s—,” one fan commented. “Hideous and disgusting for a hideous and disgusting fighter. Funny how things work themselves out,” another fan reacted.

“Who the f— are designing these?” a third fan said. According to the UFC, the fighters are given the option to design their own shorts with their own designer, or they can tell the promotion exactly what they want the shorts to include. “Most boring and basic fight shorts I’ve seen in a long time,” another fan commented. “The ugliest ones so far, to be honest,” said another fan.
Tom Aspinall’s custom shorts were labeled the ‘worst in history’ when he showed off his new design ahead of his UFC 321 fight, which ended up being the last time we have seen the former heavyweight champion in the Octagon.
